The “Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 (VEVRAA)” and “Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS)” laws require that federal employers take action to hire and promote veteran employees. These laws give further preferential status to disabled veterans and veterans who have recently separated or have served in wars.
